> ABOUT URUGUAY
Uruguay is a
peaceful country bordered by Argentina, Brazil and the Atlantic
Ocean. This wonderful little country has a population about 3.5
million, half of whom live where Rio de la Plata dumps into the
Atlantic—the capitol city of Montevideo. The government in Uruguay
is stable, and the population is pro American. No special personal
safety measures, other than common sense, are required, as the crime
rates are extremely low, and the drug problems encountered elsewhere
are virtually nonexistent here. We are proud to say that few
countries in the world remain as friendly and safe as Uruguay.
Agriculture is
devoted primarily to cattle, sheep raising and rice plantation. Visiting
Uruguay is like stepping back in time fifty years or more...and even
though Uruguayans speak Spanish, they communicate the international
language of hospitality.
Because of the
strong immigration of Europeans this country has had, you will find many
things in Uruguay will remind you of the Old World and its lifestyle.
Spanish is the native language, and Uruguay holds the highest literacy
rate in the Americas, over 94%.
It is an old country with an old country feel that reeks – and thrives
in – tradition, culture.
